Like Cowpeas, Austrian Winter Peas are extremely attractive to deer, will establish in poor soils of a lower PH, and is a low-growing annual that spreads on vines. It has very strong winter tolerance and is well suited for northern states and colder climates.

Austrian Winter Peas are very good for cover crops and green manure crops, building tilth and adding organic matter and thus humus to the soil.
